OKA: a profile
the music and the players

OKA's music brings musical traditions and cultures together - ancient and modern - black and white. The traditional rhythms and stories of DidgeriSTU's Yadaki (didgeridoo) weave throughout pumping electronic beats, vocals, exotic woodwinds and world percussion - a unique fusion of organic world sounds and electronic music like no other. (Hear samples at okamusic.com.au)

OKA's live shows are inspiring, uplifting and emotionally charged, subtle and spontaneous. Their onstage energy is thrilling audiences wherever they perform. Having established themselves here in Australia, OKA have the world in their sights:

Stu (Didgeristu)

"I bring the indigenous element of Australia to OKA." I am from the Yakin andu people of the Torres Strait/Cape York. My heritage is both of the Aboriginal and Islander people of Australia. Music is at the core of my culture. It's an extension of 'me', 'my people', and 'my spirituality'. Expressing my culture, whether it's through my music, art or traditional dancing, is so important to me. The essence of my playing is to offer a journey into my culture and my life. I'm blessed by Matt and Chris, they're my shadows, my mentors, my teachers and most of all my best friends!best friends!

Matt

For me, music is life. Everything we experience has a soundtrack, every memory has a song attached to it, and life has a vibrant rhythm. "Music is for sharing with others. It is heartfelt sharing of emotions that people connect to in music, more so than technical mastery. It is my hope that by sharing my music, others are touched by it, and can rediscover their passions." I am proud of the music OKA is producing , and am looking forward to the places and people that music will introduce me to. God is the creator, and we are vessels.g forward to the places and people that music will introduce me to. God is the creator, and we are vessels.

Chris

The instruments I play are the culmination of my adventures around the globe and life on the Australian Coast. Music and Surfing have taken me to many places. I am so stoked when our music takes other people places, that's what it's all about for me. These traditional flutes are custodians of the ancient magic of their people. I play them with utmost respect to their cultures. Thanks to all the energy workers that use our stuff as part of healing process, shine on.

  •  In the last couple of months they have had some great street parties in Byron Bay, playing for the beautiful crew at Planet Corroboree, and heaps of good vibes from their gig at Joyfest in the Gold coast hinterland.
  • Listen out for their tunes when you're flying Qantas--they are a regular addition to the inflight programming,
